Google and Constellation sign 20-year PPA for 3,590 MW
Google and Constellation Energy have finalized a 20-year power purchase agreement for 3,590 MW, combining 2,700 MW of existing generation with 890 MW from nuclear uprates across 11 reactors in the PJM grid.

Google has signed a 20-year power purchase agreement with Constellation Energy for 3,590 megawatts of power. The deal includes 2,700 megawatts from existing generation and 890 megawatts from new nuclear capacity upgrades across the PJM Interconnection.
John Cropley stated: "The power purchase agreements entail 890 MW from nuclear uprates and 2,700 MW from existing power generation in the PJM grid." This agreement is intended to support energy growth by increasing output from existing nuclear facilities without passing costs to customers. The PJM grid serves 67 million people.
Nuclear modernization scope
The nuclear uprates will add 890 megawatts of capacity across 11 reactors in Illinois, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. The work involves modernizing turbines, steam generators, and digital control systems.
The specific Constellation-owned units involved are:
Constellation owns 43 percent of the Salem plant. The investment is part of an agreement to increase output capacity at Constellation's Limerick Clean Energy Center.
Investment and timeline
Constellation will invest more than $4.3 billion in the 11 nuclear units as part of the power purchase agreement. The first uprate is expected to be delivered by 2028.
The company is submitting multiple uprate applications to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission over the next few years. One application is listed for the fourth quarter of 2028.
Technology and strategic alignment
Under an expanded five-year technology agreement, Constellation will use Google's cloud and artificial intelligence services. This includes Gemini Enterprise agentic workflows.
The 'AI for Energy' approach aims to shorten engineering and regulatory work on uprates. It is also intended to improve construction and operation performance and better protect critical infrastructure. The partnership aligns with the Department of Energy's UPRISE program.

Broader context and impacts
The agreement is expected to sustain roughly 4,400 existing jobs. It is also projected to create another 7,200 new construction jobs during the building period.
In addition to the nuclear power purchase agreement, the companies entered a separate 15-year energy supply agreement for 2,700 megawatts of power within the PJM region. Google recently entered a long-term power purchase agreement with Amazon that will see the Calvert Cliffs power plant in Maryland get a 190-megawatt uprate. Google also announced a partnership with Southern Nuclear's Georgia Power in September to uprate the Vogtle and Hatch plants.
