Soluna completes 83 MW Kati 1, secures ERCOT Base Load

Soluna has completed its 83-megawatt Kati 1 power facility in Texas. The company also announced that the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) has granted conditional Base Load status to the entire 166-megawatt Kati campus, which includes the operating site and a planned expansion.

This final 14-megawatt energization of Kati 1 brings Soluna's total operating capacity to approximately 206 megawatts. The project was delivered on schedule and within its budget, according to the company.

ERCOT's Batch Zero Process

ERCOT's conditional classification covers both the completed Kati 1 and the planned 83-megawatt Kati 2 expansion intended for artificial intelligence and high-performance computing workloads. The Base Load designation within ERCOT's Batch Zero interconnection process is significant. It means the Kati campus retains its interconnection capacity based on earlier study work and is not subject to additional reliability review or megawatt allocation in this transitional system-wide assessment.

The classification remains conditional on ERCOT's verification. Soluna stated it expects final confirmation, noting that applicants who do not answer information requests may be removed from the Batch Zero process.

Grid Connection and Renewable Power

Project Kati operates behind the meter, directly paired with the Las Majadas wind energy project. Soluna says this configuration allows it to use renewable generation on-site while avoiding the transmission upgrades and interconnection delays associated with traditional grid-connected development.

Kati 1 is dedicated to bitcoin mining. The company began energizing the first phase in February after receiving ERCOT approval. The project was built in stages, with a 48-megawatt section completed on April 1 and another 35 megawatts brought online over the summer.

Capacity in a Crowded Queue

The news comes amid intense scrutiny of ERCOT's interconnection queue. Soluna cited data showing the queue for large-load connections exceeded 438 gigawatts by mid-2026, with data centers accounting for nearly 90% of requested capacity. This volume has increased focus on which projects will ultimately retain their interconnection positions under the new review system.

CEO John Belizaire framed the Base Load status as a competitive advantage. "Kati 1 is finished and energized today, and our full 166 megawatts is positioned as Base Load while much of the market is still waiting to learn what it will be allocated," he said.

Development Pipeline and Partnerships

Soluna reported a total development pipeline of roughly 6.3 gigawatts. This includes more than 650 megawatts of planned AI and high-performance computing capacity across the Kati 2 expansion and another project called Dorothy 3.

A co-mining agreement with Bitdeer, announced in August, is now moving into the deployment phase as equipment arrives at the Kati campus.
